Your homepage and Wrapit's virtual department store

Using Wrapit’s website is really easy, and if you need any help, the links on this page will tell you what to do. But before you begin, it may help to quickly familiarise yourself with these two important sections of the site.

Your homepage
Whenever you log on to Wrapit’s website you will be presented with your “homepage”. Your homepage includes links to all the major features of our website, including

  • a link to “your list”
  • a link to “your details”
  • our guide to “Doing It Online”
  • your “Thank You Card Manager”
  • prompts to order your invitation inserts (which you should do right away) and to close your list (after your wedding, when you’re ready)
  • a facility to email your consultant.

Once you’re logged in, you can get back to your homepage by clicking the Wrapit logo in the top left hand corner of the site.

    The virtual department store
Wrapit’s virtual department store is in the grey panel to the left. Think of it as having several different floors with, for example, “cooking & dining” on the top floor, while “mind, body & soul” is downstairs.

As in a real department store, each floor of our virtual department is divided into sections. But instead of having to wear out your shoes finding the section you want, all you need to do is click the floor to reveal the sections. Then, by clicking on a section, you’ll be able to pinpoint which part of each section you want to see. It’s much easier than finding your way through John Lewis on a Saturday morning – and far less crowded!

Once you’ve targeted the area you’re after, a sort-of ‘shelf’ will appear near the bottom of the page. Use the beige arrows on either side of the shelf to move along the selection on that shelf - again, saving you valuable shoe rubber...

When you see something you like on that shelf, click the image to reveal the details of that gift. Just remember: you will not be able to add that or any gift to your list unless you are logged in.

See the "Adding gifts to your list" part of this page for details about the virtual department store's many features.

    Planning Your List

Planning your wedding list isn’t as scary as it sounds. This is your chance to get something you’ve always dreamed of, so make the most of the opportunity and have some fun! Start by thinking about what you want, what you have and what you need.

Do you want to throw fabulous dinner parties after you’re married?
If so, you might want to use your list to get everything you need to set a stunning table and cook an impressive meal.

    For the table you’ll need:

  • plates, bowls and cutlery (Enough for all your guests and all your courses. Don’t be afraid to mix and match!)
  • serving plates, platters, bowls and utensils (More than you think you’ll need.)
  • glasses for wine and water (Again, they don’t need to match.)
  • speciality glasses (…for those champagne cocktails and after supper digestifs!)
  • candle sticks, napkin holders, cruet sets (Use these to create drama.)
  • placemats or over-sized charger plates (Chargers are the contemporary and practical alternative to tablecloths.)
  • napkins

    For the kitchen you’ll want:

  • some large pots and covered pans (Enough to boil the pasta and steam all the veg at the same time.)
  • a large casserole or cocotte (Casserole dishes like Coq au Vin make an easy and impressive main course.)
  • a cookbook holder (You don’t want to get Delia dirty!)
  • a heavy duty food processor (How did our grandmothers ever manage?!)

    Are you setting up home?
If you’re moving to a new home after your wedding, you might want to take the opportunity to refresh some of your basics and get some fantastic new decorative pieces that you might not be able to afford on your own.

    Have everything?
If you’ve been living together, you may find that you already have most of your kitchen things and enough plates, cutlery and linen to go around. If you don’t want to update what you already have, don’t despair – you can still plan a wedding list that will work for you.

Experiences, travel and art are all becoming increasingly popular on wedding lists as are single large items like furniture. As long as they know it will make you happy, your guests will be pleased to make contributions towards your dream gift.

No matter what you want to your list to be like, try to bear in mind these useful tips:

  • Put more gifts on your list than you think. You’d be surprised by people’s generosity, and you don’t want your list to run out of gifts as your wedding day approaches.
  • Put some stand-alone gifts on your list. Sometimes people want to feel like they’ve bought you something ‘special’ and they may be disappointed if their choice is limited to soup bowls and fish knives. Unless you make it known that you’ll be grateful for contributions to something in particular, make sure that you’ve got plenty of individual items on your list. You can [ehem] always swap these around for bits of your dinner service later.
  • Put some expensive gifts on your list. We frequently get calls from family members or groups of friends who are disappointed that there’s nothing grand enough for them to buy on a list! And don’t forget – gift certificates can always be used towards expensive items.
  • If you don't already have one, ask your Personal Consultant to send you our wedding list checklist.

    Adding gifts to your list

The first thing you’ll want to do is to start adding gifts to your wedding list. To do this you will need to select them from our virtual department store.

  • Clicking "Wrapit’s department store" (in the grey panel to the left) will reveal our major department headings.
  • Most departments have 2 levels of sub-departments. To browse through them, click the department and sub-department names until a row of images appears.
  • You can scroll along the images by hovering your mouse over the arrows at either side of the row. If there is more than one row of images to choose from, the number of selections will be shown below the row, to the right.
  • When you see an image you like, click on the image to reveal an information page for that gift.

When you find a gift that interests you, be sure to click the “view it” button (on the gift’s page) to see a zoom image and, where possible, other images relating to that gift.

By clicking the “clip it” button, you can add items to your Wrapit Clipboard™ so that you can see how they look together.

You can also click “email it” if you want to email the item pages to your partner, friends and family.

To add the item to your list, enter the quantity you’d like in the quantity box and click the ”add it” button. You can always change the quantity on your list itself, or you can remove the item altogether.

If you know what you’re looking for, you can use our search facility to fast-track to what you want. Click “product search” at the top of our site to search by keyword or brand.

Adding a personal message to your list

From the “your details” page you will be able to add and edit a personal message that your guests will see when they access your list. This is a great opportunity for you to add some ‘personality’ to your list and say anything you want to your guests, from directions to the reception to a special greeting.

Many couples use their personal message to direct guests to the gifts that they want. Although this may seem cheeky, it works a treat! And since you can edit your message whenever you want, you can use it to prioritise your list in a uniquely friendly way.

If you need inspiration, check out these real live examples from some real live Wrapit couples!

    Ordering your invitation inserts

No matter how much effort you put into creating the perfect wedding list, your wonderful gifts simply won’t be bought if you don’t let your guests know about your list! So make sure that you order your complimenary Wrapit invitation inserts about 2 weeks before sending your invitations out.

To order your inserts, click the link on your homepage. This link will dissappear once you've ordered them.

    Password protection
When you order your invitation inserts you will have the opportunity to apply a password to your wedding list which will protect it from being seen by anyone who doesn’t know the password.

Although this is a suitable option for couples with privacy concerns, we don’t generally recommend password protection since it merely imposes a barrier to your list which your guests can probably do without.   You will also need to add the password to each insert you send out.

    Managing your list

You can make changes to your list at any time by logging on to our website. You can a add a new gift to your list from our virtual department store, or you can remove a gift from your list by changing its quantity to “0” and clicking “update list”.

    Receiving email updates
One of the best things about your wedding list is receiving emails each time a gift is bought for you. These emails will include a personal message from your guest, and are especially fun to receive during a busy work day!

    Plumping-up your list
If you notice a flurry of emails telling you that your gifts are being bought, you should take a moment to log in to your wedding list and add some more gifts.

  • Guests often get frustrated and make their own arrangements if there's little left to choose from on a list, so try to make sure that your list never looks 'thin'.
  • You may add or remove items from your list as often as you like, although you can't remove a bought item until you close your list.
  • If your dinner service or cutlery set isn't being bought, mention how grateful you'd be for a few plates or forks in your personal message - it will make all the difference!

    Closing and confirming your list

After the confetti’s settled and you’re back from your honeymoon, you’ll be able to close your list at your convenience. Once your list is closed, you will then be able to confirm which gifts you want to receive before ordering them.

  • To close your list, click the "close your list"link on your homepage.
  • Do not close your list until you're ready to! When you close your list, your guests will no longer have access to it, so it’s sometimes best to wait a while in case you have stragglers.
  • You will be asked to confirm your delivery address when you close your list. If the address is outside the EC, you will qualify for our VAT-free scheme.
  • Once your list is closed, an extra column will appear on your list headed "confirm". Use this column to confirm the quantity of each item you want.
  • If you decide that you don't want something at all, simply change the quantity in the "confirm" column to "0".
  • If you add a brand new gift to your list from our virtual department store, make sure that you confirm the quantity you want in the "confirm" column too!
  • As always, be sure to click the update button to save your changes.
  • Whenever you update the changes you’ve made, the credit balance or amount owing (shown in red) on your list will automatically be calculated on your list.
  • Any gift certificates that you may have been received will be included in your list balance.
  • You can keep adjusting your list until you are happy with your final selection.

    Ordering your gifts

Whatever you do - don't forget to order your gifts! Because if you don't order your gifts, we don't either!

  • Once you are completely satisfied with your list, click "order your list" on your homepage or on your list.
  • If you change your mind about something after you make your order, you will be charged a £10 administration fee per item, so please make sure that you are satisfied with the gifts on your list before ordering them.
  • Please make sure that you spend any credit balance you have before you order your list as we cannot hold credit after your list has been ordered.
  • When deciding what to buy yourself, remember that you get an additional 10% discount on anything you spend on top of the sum already spent by your guests. This should help any cash gifts you received go a bit further!
  • If you do decide to buy extra bit yourself, a 10% discount will automatically be deducted from your wedding list balance.
